I’ve been thinking a lot recently about mothers in fiction. The book I’m working on now has a key mother/daughter relationship, and my central character in I Let You Go is a mother struggling to come to terms with the loss of a child. On 25th April I’ll join bestselling authors Hannah Beckerman (The Dead Wife’s Handbook) and Rowan Coleman (The Memory Book) at Chipping Norton Literary Festival to discuss why the role of the mother is such an important one for writers the world over.
In the meantime, it’s nearly Mother’s Day. For ages I’ve been promising to give away a proof copy of the gorgeous paperback of I Let You Go, out 7th May, so I’m running a quick competition just in time for Mother’s Day. Leave a comment below, telling me who your favourite fictional mother is, and on Friday I’ll pick a winner and pop a signed copy in first class post to you in time for Mothering Sunday.
