This week is TAMBA’s Twins, Triplets and More week, promoting the launch of their new initiative, Get Ready for Multiples! The programme offers support to new and expectant parents of multiples, highlighting some of the challenges which lie ahead. Parenting twins or triplets is an incredible, rewarding experience where you really do get twice (or thrice!) the cuddles, but it can also be intensely stressful.
Mothers of twins or more are twice as likely to suffer from Post Natal Depression than those with just one baby. No-one knows why this is the case but twin pregnancies can be complicated and over-medicalised; labour rarely takes place without intervention of some kind. Caring for two babies is more difficult than you can possibly imagine without having experienced it – feeding them, changing them, stopping them from crying…
TAMBA is a lifeline for those expecting more than one baby, or for new parents of multiples. They also offer an amazing befriender programme, specifically for parents who have lost one or more of their multiples.
In support of TAMBA’s initiative I am guest-posting over at You’ve Got Your Hands Full , writing about coping with the death of a twin. It’s not a topic you’ll see me writing about very often, but I hope you’ll read it and spare a thought for those who have had genuine need of TAMBA’s befriender service. There are many far more qualified than I to write about the darkness of Post-Natal Depression, but I have touched on how it felt for me in this blog post.
You can find more information about TAMBA’s Get Ready for Multiples! initiative on their website.
For a great way to support the work TAMBA does, take a look at the fantastic range of products from Morrck. I met these ladies when I was pregnant with my first set of twins, and fell in love with their products and their great approach to customer service. Throughout July Morrck will donate £2 from every on-line sale to TAMBA; what a great reason to go shopping…
