Would you like to see your name as a character in a book? Could this be the perfect gift for a partner or best friend? Perhaps you’d love to see someone’s namesake come to a sticky end…
Children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent’s annual Get in Character auction is now on, offering you the chance to bid for more than 70 lots. You could enjoy lunch with Lee Child, have your writing critiqued by Katie Fforde, or name a character in books written by dozens of bestselling authors.
I don’t know anyone whose lives haven’t been touched by cancer, and I can’t imagine the pain of watching a child go through what I’ve seen adults endure. CLIC Sargent helps families with practical and emotional support, and every penny donated helps.
Author Gilly Macmillan’s son Louis had a rare type of cancer as a baby, and she explained to me the difference CLIC Sargent made to their lives during that difficult time.
“Louis was only 13 months old, and received most of his treatment 60 miles from home. During this time CLIC Sargent offered our whole family accommodation close to the hospital. This enabled us to have Louis’s siblings with us, and to do practical things like laundry, as well as offering necessary respite from hours spent on the ward. CLIC Sargent’s help made a difficult time significantly easier.”
I’m honoured to be taking part in this fun and incredibly worthwhile campaign, and I’d urge you to take a look at the CLIC Sargent site and choose a lot to bid for.
My own lot relates to my second book, for which I need character names for female commuters. If you’re a male bidder, I’ll find an alternative character for you! If you’re the winning bidder you’ll also receive a signed copy of the book, as well as the nice warm glow that comes from donating to such a worthy cause.
